Believing all the way

Girona's ninth win in eleven games takes them to provisional Primera Division leader with 28 points

Girona are still on a great moment and today Montilivi once again experienced a night of strong emotions with the three points as the final result. The team were superior throughout the ninety minutes and had clear chances to go ahead earlier, but the goal resisted and today the team was forced to go for the epic. In the match at Sant Narcís, Míchel Sánchez's men kept their faith until the end, and in stoppage time Yangel Herrera found the reward for all the team's efforts.

Girona took the initiative from the opening whistle, and with the ball they set up in the opposition half in search of a goal. Dovbyk gave an early warning with a header from a corner that went too high, and the team continued to threaten Vicente Guaita's goal with intent. Savio tried again with a cross-shot that sailed over the area, and Iván Martín beat the centre-backs to head towards goal, but a defender deflected it behind for a corner.

The team dominated, but were unable to transfer their superiority from the pitch to the scoreboard, and in the other area Gazzaniga was able to deal with the only dangerous action in which he had to intervene. It was a similar script for the restart, which started again with Dovbik heading into the hands of the visiting keeper. As the minutes went by and, pushed by the fans, the team intensified the threat to the opposing goal with clearer and clearer chances.

Aleix's shot and another cross from Iván Martín that went just wide of the post opened the floodgates for Girona, who had some very clear chances. Couto was left alone in front of Guaita in a quick transition, but his final shot went too high, and Miguel's shot from the edge of the area went just wide of the post.

Deserving the win but with the tension of a final few minutes where anything could happen, the appearance of Yangel Herrera in stoppage time sparked euphoria in the stadium. The Venezuelan struck a shot just inside the long post to keep the three points at home for another week. With this victory, the club continues to enjoy an historic moment and is provisional leader of the Primera División with 28 points.
