Comeback of pride at Anoeta (1-2)

A brace from Tsygankov allows Girona to escape relegation on the day Arnau reaches 100 matches in the First Division.

Girona achieved a victory of pride at Anoeta, one of those that can mark a turning point in a season, thanks to a brace from an inspired Viktor Tsygankov, who has now scored three goals in La Liga. Míchel's team overturned Guedes' opening goal and moved out of the relegation zone with a hard-fought and well-deserved win. In a match full of symbolism, Arnau Martínez, today’s captain, celebrated his 100th match in the First Division, while Azzedine Ounahi was chosen as MVP after an exhibition of personality and creativity in midfield, including the assist for Girona's first goal.

The match did not start easily for the red-and-whites. Real Sociedad struck early, with rhythm and chances. In the 2nd minute, Kubo already warned with a cross shot, and shortly after Gazzaniga responded confidently against Brais Méndez. Girona, however, found their place through possession, gaining ground and composure, and even Tsygankov forced a great save from Remiro in the 18th minute. However, just as Míchel's team seemed better positioned, a pass from Zubeldia left Guedes alone to make it 1-0 in the 34th minute.

In the second half, Girona came out with more intent and the feeling that a comeback was possible. Arnau, active and brave on his special day, came close to equalizing with a sharp shot that went just wide of the post. Ounahi, omnipresent, directed every attack with precision and also tried his luck from the edge of the box. The game opened up, but neither side could find the final pass… until justice was served in football.

In the 75th minute, a textbook transition led by Ounahi himself left Tsygankov in a clear position. The Ukrainian did not miss: a precise touch, 1-1, and a complete shift in momentum. Real tried to react, but Girona found more and more space on the counterattack. And there, the night’s protagonist appeared once again.

In the 84th minute, Álex Moreno delivered an intelligent pass to the heart of the area, and Tsygankov, with a brilliant backheel finish, made it 1-2 and silenced Anoeta. A world-class goal to cap off a memorable performance.

In the final minutes, Girona held on with composure, driven by Arnau, who led with authority as captain, and by Ounahi, who was ultimately crowned the best player of the match.

With this victory, the red-and-whites climbed to 15 points and left the relegation zone. Next week, Montilivi will host a major clash against Atlético de Madrid.
