Girona falls to Atlético and faces a final at Montilivi

Girona left the Metropolitano empty-handed but with the bitter feeling of having deserved much more. Míchel's team lost by the minimum margin against Atlético de Madrid (1-0) in a match where the red-and-whites competed with personality, created enough chances to score, and came up against an imperial Jan Oblak.

The only goal of the match came in the 20th minute when Antoine Griezmann delivered a cross that Ademola Lookman converted into the 1-0. A moment of quality that punished Girona, who paradoxically had started the game better and had already threatened with chances from Joel Roca and Bryan Gil.

The scenario and context seemed favorable for an Atlético focused on paying tribute to Griezmann, but it was Girona who imposed rhythm and intent for much of the first half. Míchel's side pressed high, circulated the ball with purpose, and found in Ounahi the creativity and imbalance needed to unsettle the Madrid defense. However, efficiency punished the Girona side.

After the break, the script became even more pronounced. Atlético retreated to protect their lead, and Girona took risks, piling on attacks and shots. Tsygankov, Ounahi, and the introduction of Stuani fueled hope, but Oblak became an almost insurmountable wall with a decisive performance between the posts.

Girona returns home without points but with footballing arguments to believe. Now, all the pressure and hope are focused on the final matchday: Montilivi will deliver its verdict next Saturday against Elche (9:00 PM).
