Press conference of Girona's coach, Quique Álvarez, ahead of the match against Real Sociedad B.
The Girona FC coach, Quique Álvarez, appeared this morning at the press conference prior to the match that the team will play against Real Sociedad B. Before delving into the sports analysis, the coach wanted to say a few words in memory of the victims of the recent train accident: “I want to express my condolences to the families and friends of the victims of the train accident, on behalf of myself and Girona.”
Regarding the team's current form, Álvarez emphasized the importance of maintaining a competitive level after the recent victories. “I have asked the players not to lower their intensity despite the recent wins,” he stated, stressing the need to continue working with the same level of demand as before. In this regard, he also highlighted the value of competition within the squad: “I have always asked the players for internal competitiveness. I try to choose those I consider most suitable for each match.”
Despite the positive run of results, the Girona coach made it clear that the focus is solely on the next match. “The primary goal is to win the next game. I’m not looking beyond that,” he assured.
Quique Álvarez also highlighted the positive impact of substitutions and the depth of the squad. “We are at a point where the players coming in are making a difference. In the second halves, we used to have problems, and now that’s not happening,” he explained, satisfied with the performance of the players coming off the bench.
Regarding the opponent, the coach warned about the strengths of a reserve team accustomed to competing at a very high level. “Real Sociedad B is a team with a lot of speed up front, very physical, and vertical,” he pointed out.
Finally, Álvarez wanted to thank the fans who accompany the team on away games. “Having the fans travel and support us is a source of pride for us,” he concluded.
