Girona FC faces a new league match this weekend with the visit of CD Castellón to Montilivi. In the pre-match press conference, Quique Álvarez emphasized the importance of maintaining the competitive form shown in the last two matches and highlighted the team's strength after some challenging weeks.

“The season will be very long and very tough. We've only played four matches. When you win, morale is higher, and all the opponents we face are currently at the top. We competed well in the last two matches, and we must do the same against Castellón, which is a great team,” the coach noted.

Álvarez assured that the team is focused during training sessions and emphasized the solidity of the locker room: “I see that everyone is focused. We've gone through some tough weeks, but we have a strong group. That is the foundation for achieving our goals.”

A demanding Castellón

The red-and-white coach described Castellón as “one of the best teams in the category” and highlighted the continuity of the Castellón project, which has a solid foundation after a successful last season.

“It’s not a team that speculates; it makes things very difficult for its opponents. There will be tough moments during the match, and the fans need to be aware of that. We have the tools to compete well against Castellón,” he explained.

Regarding the functioning of his own team, Álvarez acknowledged that one of the objectives is to continue improving defensive capabilities and ball play. “I would like to defend higher and with the ball. That’s the ideal, but there are opponents in front of us, and we are in the process of improving in all aspects. There will be moments in the match where we will need to defend and make ourselves strong,” he pointed out.

The coach also assessed the different offensive alternatives at his disposal. “I have three forwards plus Abel, who is playing in another position. Depending on the moment of the match, we can use one or the other. I have variety, and I must try to make everyone feel important,” he stated.

In this regard, he also referred to Asprilla’s situation, who has been prominent and has good stats at the start of the season: “I’m glad things are going well for Asprilla. I think he needs to keep pushing and showing his level. That will surely be good for Girona.”

Quique Álvarez also emphasized the importance of home advantage in a match where the support of the fans could be decisive: “I know that coming to Montilivi is a challenge for opponents. We need to give a little more because, if not, it will be difficult to win matches.”

For the match against Castellón, Girona FC will be without Portu, Unai, and Jastin, the latter sidelined with an injury that will keep him out of action for several weeks.
