We continue to win

A very important victory in Balaídos to keep up the good pace in the league and turn the page on the slip-up in the Copa. The red and whites needed three points that would allow them to rediscover the good sensations that have accompanied them throughout the season, and they got them thanks to a goal from Portu. The player from Murcia put the game to bed early on and Girona alternated between moments of dominance and suffering before finally sealing the win.

Míchel Sánchez's men entered the game very well and subdued Celta for a long time. Sávio had an early warning from a set-piece and Yangel Herrera also tried his luck from distance. The clearest chance fell to Dovbyk, with a powerful header that Guaita had to clear off the line, and Girona ended the good start with a goal. Miguel and Sávio played a good move down the left flank, and the ball was played to Portu who, inside the box, made no mistake.

With the score against them, Celta were gaining ground and Gazzaniga was very safe behind the posts. The Argentinian made several fine saves to maintain the lead, the clearest being a shot from Larsen that he tipped away with his fingertips and with the help of the crossbar. Girona tried to regain control of the game in the second half to pause a tightly contested game with plenty of pace, but neither side could find any continuity in their play and the minutes ticked away from the penalty area. The home side tried to push forward in the final period, and Míchel's men tried to kill the game on the counter, but in the end Portu's goal was enough to leave Balaídos with the three points.
