Former player and coach Santi Carrasco dies
Girona FC deeply regrets the passing of Santi Carrasco Andreu, former player and coach of the club, who has passed away at the age of 80. The Club wishes to express its sincerest condolences to his family, friends, and the entire white-and-red family.
Carrasco, a native of Cartagena, is considered a historic figure of the Club both for his sports career and his emotional connection to the entity. He arrived in the Girona region in the late 1960s, coming from Alcoià, after a promotion playoff against Olot that sparked Girona FC's interest. He defended the white-and-red goal at Vista Alegre between 1968 and 1970, during a period in which he also played for Oriola, Cartagena, and Alcoi, and later for Figueres and Banyoles.
After retiring, he began a coaching career that brought him back to Montilivi. He managed Girona FC's youth team before taking charge of the first team during the 1986-1987 season. That season, with the team in the Third Division, he achieved a seventh-place finish which, thanks to a federation restructuring, resulted in promotion to the Second Division B.
Carrasco continued his career on the benches of Blanes, Guíxols, Palafrugell, Malgrat de Mar, and Torroella, always maintaining a strong bond with Girona FC. As a season ticket holder and active member of the Veterans Association, he was honored on several occasions.
The farewell ceremony for Santi Carrasco will take place this Tuesday.
