Girona closed in 2022 with a draw against Rayo Vallecano

Taty Castellanos and Samu Saiz, white-and-red scorers

Girona returns to the Santander League, adding an important point to Rayo Vallecano. Visitors have advanced up to twice, but the white-and-red-reds have been able to match the duel thanks to the goals of Castellanos and Samu Saiz.

The party has not been able to start in a worse way for the white-and-red interests. Camello has taken advantage of a defensive failure to advance Rayo to the first minute of play. Girona has slowly sought the reaction. First with a shot of Ivan Martin in the hands of Dimitrievsky, and then with a distant attempt by Castellanos that has gone off course. About half an hour of play, Iván Martín has been hit in the area and after a review of the VAR, the referee has pointed to the penalty. A maximum penalty that has transformed Taty Castellanos to draw the match. Before the break, Richeza tried Dimitrievsky, but Rayo's goalkeeper responded correctly.

The second half has started with an ambitious Girona. Miguel, Taty, Arnau and Iván Martín have had four goal choices in only the first quarter hour of the second act. But on Rayo's first arrival the goal came. A loss in the field has ended with an Isi row at the bottom of the net in the 62nd minute. Shortly after, Gazzaniga appeared spectacularly to avoid the third in a shot from Unai Lopez. In the absence of 15' for the end, a Castellanos shot has struck in the hand of a Rayo defender, in what has been the second penalty of the match. Samu Saiz has scored from eleven metres and tied the match. In the final stretch, the occasions have come from both sides. Falcao has finished alone in the small area, but his head stroke has not found a goal. On the opposite side, Stuani has finished as head and Dimitrievsky has made a massive stop to avoid the third Girona goal. In added time, Stuani made the third, but was overruled by the referee by David Lopez.

Girona adds an important point in the return to the Santander League. On Saturday, 7 January at 21:00, he visited Spanish in the first match of 2023.
