Girona earns a draw at Anoeta (1-1)

Dovbyk made his debut in the second half and scored his first goal.

Girona have scraped a point (1-1) in their league opener at Real Sociedad's home ground. And it wasn't easy because Míchel's side found themselves trailing early on. In the 5th minute, Take Kubo made it 1-0 with a cross that Gazzaniga was well out of reach. A few minutes later, the referee gave a penalty for an action by Blind inside the box but it was disallowed. Girona were not their pre-season selves and had little to play for, besieged by the pressure of the Donostiarras.

The panorama changed in the second half. Míchel moved the bench. He brought on Pablo Torre and Valery and Artem Dovbyk made his debut. The team's reaction was evident and the Ukrainian connection paid off. The striker levelled the score with an unstoppable header from a cross from the right flank by his compatriot Viktor Tsygankov.

First point against an opponent who will be competing in the Champions League this season.
