Girona FC faces a new competition match this weekend with a visit to Sporting de Gijón. In the pre-match press conference, Quique Álvarez highlighted the team's good week of work following the victory in the previous match and emphasized the importance of maintaining the positive momentum.

“This week has been good. After the victory, even more so, because it has boosted the team's morale. We have to go to Gijón to compete well and to continue what we did the other day,” the coach assured.

Álvarez emphasized the need to find balance and continue improving various aspects of the game, with special attention to defensive solidity. “It’s important to have balance. We need to improve many things, and one of them is not conceding goals. The team already took a step forward the other day,” he explained.

Regarding the squad, the coach highlighted the internal competition and the involvement of all the players. “Vanat has to be important, as do others. I see a team eager to have a good year, knowing it will be tough but determined to achieve the goal,” he stated. In this regard, he added: “I have a great squad and, above all, one very focused on what Girona is, which is the most important thing.”

Quique Álvarez also reviewed the physical condition of some players. Regarding Jastin, he reported that “he has a muscle injury, and we hope to recover him soon because he will help us a lot.”

As for Unai, the coach explained that the player needs to complete an adaptation process before taking on a bigger role: “Unai will give us a lot and needs a process to be able to help the team. We need to adjust the workload.”

Carles Pérez, on the other hand, is now ready to start getting some minutes. “He’s been training well and can start helping us for a while,” Álvarez commented, also highlighting Asprilla’s progress: “He’s earning it himself. He’s doing very well. We need everyone to contribute and be important. They have to make it hard for me.”

The coach also valued the potential of Girona B and mentioned several players he is closely monitoring: “In the reserve team, there are several players who can help us, Lass, Badia, Gibi, Sarasa... I don’t want to name more, but they have to do well for their team, and I’ll be watching to see if they can help us.”

A demanding opponent at El Molinón

Regarding Sporting, Álvarez highlighted both the difficulty of the trip and the characteristics of the match venue. “El Molinón is one of the best stadiums, with a spectacular atmosphere,” he pointed out.

In relation to the Asturian team, the coach warned of their potential: “As a team, they are very solid, with experienced players and others who are young. The three or four players up front can easily cause damage.” And he concluded: “It’s not a defensive team, but they are solid in defense.”
