Starting 2026 in the best way

Girona opened 2026 with a very commendable victory at Son Moix. Against a combative Mallorca, Míchel's team knew how to compete in the key moments and left Palma with three golden points thanks to their efficiency in front of goal.

From the start, Girona showed their identity: possession, patience, and high pressing when needed. In the 25th minute of play, the Girona team found the way to the goal after a well-orchestrated move that unsettled the local defense, and Viktor Tsygankov opened the scoring with the 1-0.

In the second half, the scenario did not change. Girona continued to dominate the game and created dangerous chances at Leo Román's goal. In the 63rd minute, after a good red-and-white counterattack, Vladyslav Vanat fell to the ground after contact with the Ibizan goalkeeper, and the referee awarded a penalty. The same forward took responsibility for converting the penalty and made it 2-0 on the scoreboard.  

From that point on, Girona tried to maintain control and slow down the game. It wasn't until the final minutes that Mallorca, fully committed to the attack, earned a penalty that Muriqi converted for the final 2-1.

In this way, Girona secures their first victory of the year and starts the year outside the relegation zone. Next Saturday at Montilivi at 18:30, they will host Osasuna.
