Girona B is all set to face a new season in the Segunda Federación. The red-and-white reserve team begins the 2026/27 campaign with a renewed and rejuvenated squad, a new coaching staff led by Ángel Donato, and the challenge of continuing to grow and establish itself in an increasingly demanding category.

This season has seen eight new signings and eleven departures, marking a significant overhaul of a team entering its second consecutive season in the Segunda Federación. However, the project maintains its essence: focusing on the development of young footballers, providing them with a high-level competitive environment, and preparing them to make the leap to the first team.

Ángel Donato takes the reins

The main novelty on the bench is the arrival of Ángel Donato, who takes on the role of Girona B's head coach for the 2026/27 season. The Alicante-born coach, born in November 1990, joins the club after managing Atlético de Madrid's Juvenil A team last season.

Previously, Donato spent two seasons in charge of Ilicitano, Elche's reserve team, and has extensive experience in youth football. For thirteen years, he was part of Atlético de Madrid's structure, where he held various responsibilities related to training and talent development, including Academy Sports Coordinator and Methodology Coordinator.

Former Girona captain Àlex Granell will join him as assistant coach, after serving as the reserve team's technical secretary last season.

Eight new signings for a younger team

Ángel Donato will have a group with several new faces. Girona B has signed center-back Anartz Segurola (2006) from Real Sociedad; midfielder Darío Frey (2005) from Atlético de Madrid; and offensive players Biel Carreras (2005) from Peralada, Adam el Mokhles (2006) from Europa, and Jakes Gorosabel (2005) from Coruxo.

These five additions are joined by two players making the leap from the Juvenil team: goalkeeper Jordi Bilali Danso (2007), and wingers Lou White (2007) and Alex Cantarell (2008). Completing the new arrivals is Joan Raventós (2006), who returns to the club after a loan spell.

The squad renewal is complemented by the continuity of a group of players who are already familiar with the category and will play an important role in the new project. Among them are Aleksandar Andreev, Gibert Jordana, Pol Arnau, Biel Farrés, Antonio Salguero, Guillem Badia, Mario González, Aimar García, Pol Trigueros, Javi Sarasa, Ricard Artero, Enric Garcia, Juan Arango, Javi González, and Mohammed Hamony.

Continuity and growth as main challenges

Girona B faces its second season in the Segunda Federación, having established itself in a category that represents a significant competitive leap from the Tercera Federación.

The main goal of the reserve team will continue to be providing young footballers with a demanding environment that allows them to evolve, compete, and progressively move closer to the first team. In this regard, the combination of young players with those who already have experience in the category will be one of the key elements of the project.

The season will also be marked by the promotion of players and coaches to higher structures. In this sense, Quique Álvarez, last season's reserve team coach, has moved to the first team's bench, while goalkeeper Sergi Puig has also made the leap to the first team, and Lass Kourouma will be involved with the first team dynamics.

Group 2 with 34 matchdays

This season, Girona B will compete in Group 2 of the Segunda Federación, consisting of 18 teams and, therefore, a total of 34 matchdays. The competition will begin on September 6 and run until May 9, 2027. The debut will be away against UD Barbastro, while the first home game will be a week later against CD Tudelano.

The calendar also includes several particularly attractive matches for the reserve team. Among them are clashes with Barça Atlètic and Espanyol B, as well as the double duel with UE Olot and matches against teams with extensive experience in national categories. Girona B will close the regular phase on May 9, 2027, at the field of UD Logroñés B.

With a renewed squad, a new coaching staff, and a clear commitment to young talent, Girona B thus begins a new chapter in the Segunda Federación with the challenge of continuing to grow, competing at the highest level, and maintaining its role as a key step in the development of players on their path to the first team.
