Fran Beltrán: "When a team wants you and bets on you, you feel like coming."
Girona FC has today introduced Fran Beltrán as their new red-and-white player in a press conference. The 25-year-old midfielder from Madrid joins the club after seven and a half seasons at RC Celta, where he established himself as one of the most consistent and experienced central midfielders in La Liga.
The president of Girona FC, Delfí Geli, highlighted the player's quality and career, stating that “he is a proven player in La Liga. We are happy to bring him in and for him to help us grow as a club.”
The sporting director, Quique Cárcel, emphasized the joint effort that made the signing possible and remarked that “I thank his agents for making this happen. We have been discussing this for a while, and now we have made it possible. He arrives at a very good age, with more than 300 matches in La Liga. He knows the coach and is a player we needed for the position he plays. We have been able to bring him in now to have a strong second half of the season and achieve our goals.”
In his first statement as a Girona FC player, Fran Beltrán expressed his satisfaction with joining the team and his excitement for this new chapter. He explained that “we have been working on this for some time. We had discussed it in previous transfer windows. In the end, when a team wants you and bets on you, you feel like coming. We have a team capable of climbing up the standings. It’s been seven and a half seasons at Celta. I gave my all there, and now I’m happy to have come here.”
Beltrán acknowledged that his relationship with Míchel influenced his decision and shared that “I haven’t spoken much with Míchel lately. I think when we last crossed paths, he already knew I could come. Where you are truly valued is where you should go.”
The midfielder also noted that he sees similarities between Girona FC's project and that of his former club, stating that “Girona aspires to a lot and has similarities with Celta. The style of play might be similar, and for me, that will be very beneficial. I’m very happy.”
Additionally, he praised the ambition and quality of the squad, affirming that “when you see that they are investing in very good players, it says a lot about where the club wants to go. I’ve seen an ambitious team eager to do things well.”
Regarding his role on the pitch, Beltrán described himself as a versatile and committed player, explaining that “I consider myself very passionate. I don’t mind where I play, but I feel very comfortable in central areas. I focus on helping my teammates and reaching the highest level possible.”
With this signing, Girona FC strengthens their midfield with a proven and competitive player, aligned with the demands of the sports project for the second half of the season.
