Girona achieves the third consecutive victory in 2026

Girona FC took a significant step forward at the RCDE Stadium with a solid victory (0-2) against Espanyol, in a Catalan derby decided from the penalty spot. Míchel's team showed character away from Montilivi and confirmed their good form with three valuable points.

The match required patience. Girona adopted a competitive approach from the start against an intense Espanyol driven by their home crowd. Without rushing, the red-and-whites managed to contain the home team's rhythm and began to find spaces as the minutes passed.

The reward came in added time of the first half. A play inside the area ended with a penalty in favor of Girona. Although the first attempt was saved, the retake allowed Vladyslav Vanat to put the visitors ahead from the penalty spot, delivering a psychological blow just before halftime.

In the second half, Girona displayed professionalism. The team managed their lead with composure, maintaining defensive order and exploiting spaces when the game allowed. Espanyol tried to respond but encountered a solid and highly competitive Girona.

In added time, another penalty sealed the match. Once again, Vanat scored the final 0-2, securing a hard-fought and well-deserved victory that boosts the team's confidence.

With this triumph, Girona consolidates their growth, earning three prestigious points away from home and reaffirming their change in form. Next Monday, January 26, Girona will host Getafe at Montilivi (9:00 PM).
