Pere Guardiola and Marcelo Claure join the Board of Directors

The Shareholders' Meeting, which has increased the number of Directors from four to six, has appointed Roger Solé and Simon Cliff as new Members

In the special shareholders' meeting of Girona FC that took place today, Pere Guardiola has been appointed as Chairman of the Board of Directors and at the same time has welcomed Marcelo Claure as a new member. During the meeting is also been increased the number of directors, from four to six, and apart from the mentioned Pere Guardiola and Marcelo Claure, it’s also formed by Diego Gigliani as Vice Chairman, Andy Young, who stays as member, Simon Cliff passes from Secretary to member (his position as Secretary will be now held by Ricard Capdevila), and the last addition is Roger Solé, a new member of the board.

At this same meeting, Ignasi Mas-Bagà has left his duty as Chairman of the Board, which he had been developing for the last 5 years, and will continue his work as CEO of Girona FC. Borja López, who has been a member of the Board, also leaves his position on the Council.

The new members of the Board of Directors

Pere Guardiola, the new Chairman of the Board of Directors, is a soccer man. From a young age he played the game at Gimnàstic de Manresa. After 15 years playing he hung up his boots in 1997 to begin his professional career at Nike. At the company, he carried out various functions, from recruiting promising young talent to leading the company's relationship with FC Barcelona’s players and the Spanish national team, through managing the logistics of two icons such as Ronaldo and Ronaldinho and finally becoming the region Football Manager in Spain and Portugal.

In 2009 he founded Media Base Sports, a global player representation agency, through which top-level coaches and players such as Pep Guardiola, Andrés Iniesta, Luis Suárez and Thiago Alcántara have passed over the last decade.

Marcelo Claure, who today became part of the red & white Board of Directors, is a successful businessman whose purchase of 35% of Girona FC shares was announced a few days ago, adding to City Football Group and Girona Football Group as maximum shareholders of the entity.

Claure is a member of the Board of Directors and CEO of Softbank Group International, the Japanese multinational that invests in technology leaders throughout the world including companies such as Uber, Alibaba and Arm. Claure is also CEO of WeWork, Brightstar, and Fortress and is on the board of directors of T-Mobile and Arm.

In his extensive business career, he stands out as the founder of Brightstar. This company became the largest mobile distribution business in the world and the largest Hispanic business in the history of the United States.

In the world soccer, Marcelo Claure is the president of Club Bolívar, the most popular and successful soccer team in Bolivia. He is also co-owner and chairman of the Board of Directors of Inter Miami CF, a club that is active in the MLS.

The third addition to the Board is Roger Solé. Solé has been WeWork's Marketing VP (CMO) since April 2020 while also managing numerous consumer-facing brands. He has over 20 years of experience in marketing, customer lifecycle management, and product and service innovation. Before joining WeWork, he worked at Sprint, where he was the company's Marketing VP for five years. Business Insider named him one of the World's Most Innovative CMOs in 2016 and 2017. Solé also led the creation of a new Sprint value proposition that revolutionized the American wireless market as well as the new brand identity. The campaign was named best advertisement of 2016 by the Wall Street Journal.

Before Sprint, the new Director worked at TIM Brazil, where he was Marketing VP for the company for six years. Solé grew TIM to become the leader in mobile sales in Brazil, with a 40% market share and 75 million clients. Before TIM Brasil, Roger spent six years at Vivo (Telefónica Brasil) and at DiamondCluster, a strategic consultancy specialized in telecommunications and technology.
