The top scorer in MLS reinforces Girona's attack

Valentín “Taty” Castellanos, 23, arrives on loan until the end of the season

Valentín Castellanos, top scorer in Major League Soccer (MLS), will reinforce Girona FC's attack in the team's return to the First Division. The 23-year-old Argentine player arrives on loan from New York City FC until the end of the season. Known as Taty Castellanos, he began his career at the youth academy of the University of Chile, from where he moved to Montevideo City Torque in July 2017. After playing on loan for a season, in November 2018 he signed for New York City FC, completing a new step in his football evolution.

The new Girona FC player showed his goalscoring instinct last season when he scored 23 goals in 36 games in the league and American Cups. These figures placed him at the forefront of the league's top scorers, winning the MLS golden boot. Castellanos was also chosen as the best player in the US league in 2021 and, in addition, he lifted the first title in the history of New York City by winning the competition. Under-23 international for Argentina, this season he has maintained the leading scorer with 13 goals in 16 matches.

Castellanos scored 53 goals and recorded 19 assists across 115 MLS regular season and MLS Cup Playoffs appearances for NYCFC. Castellanos is only the second player in NYCFC history to score 50+ goals for the Club. He also became the only player in Club history to score four goals in a single game during the Club’s 6-0 dominating performance against Real Salt Lake earlier this season.
