The sporting director of Girona FC, Quique Cárcel, and the Club's CEO, Ignasi Mas-Bagà, have reviewed the transfer market and analyzed the moves made by the entity this summer, with the challenge of building a competitive squad after relegation to the Second Division and with the goal of returning to the First Division.

Cárcel explained that one of the priorities during the market was to maintain the identity of the locker room while adapting to a new sporting situation. "One of the keys was to empathize with the Club's objectives, with the players..." he pointed out. In this regard, he acknowledged that "with the setback of relegation, we knew that many players would not want to play in the Second Division, and we had to manage that." The sporting director also noted that "we knew that some players were guaranteed sales due to the season they had or because of the World Cup, as was the case with Ounahi," but he emphasized that there was always a clear priority: "What I didn’t want was to lose the key values of our locker room."

Regarding the squad configuration, Cárcel explained that "the most important pattern in the market was to make the team as competitive as possible." A task that, according to him, was carried out with the commitment of the players. "It has been evident that there are players who are very involved, who have worked like beasts in these days. All of them have shown great commitment," he stated.

One of the standout names in the market was Ounahi. "The Ounahi case is the most peculiar. Everyone assumed there would be a sale, but it came late. I was clear about what the sale price had to be. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have left," Cárcel explained. The sporting director also highlighted the involvement of the Club's owners in the sporting project: "The Club's owners first think about the sporting objectives with the ultimate goal of promotion."

Cárcel also wanted to highlight the role of the fans at the start of the season. "In these first two matches at Montilivi, the fans have been spectacular and have given us a lot of positive energy. I think the only blemish has been the whistles at Gazzaniga. I want to ask everyone to help us after going through such a significant wound as relegation. However, I understand the frustration of the people. In the last seven games of last season, we experienced a perfect storm but in a negative way. Despite everything, in these first two games, I’ve seen the best Montilivi of the last two years, and that’s fantastic."

The sporting director also emphasized the changes the squad has undergone compared to the team that played in the Champions League. "Only four players remain from the Champions League team. We must try to build a competitive team with humility and sacrifice." In this vein, he highlighted the contribution of the younger players: "The young players are helping a lot to create this good atmosphere." And he sent a message of optimism for the season: "If we all go together, I’m convinced this team can be at the top."

Finally, Cárcel wanted to value the work being done in the youth academy. "I want to highlight Girona’s youth academy, which is working spectacularly to develop players," he stated.

For his part, the CEO of Girona FC, Ignasi Mas-Bagà, contextualized the Club's investment and player sales policy in recent years. "We have made significant investments in players that have allowed us to make great sales," he explained. Mas-Bagà detailed that "in the last four seasons, we have invested more than 100 million euros in players, and the transfer figure is similar. And, in addition, the entire squad remains under contract." The CEO emphasized that this policy is part of a management model in which "all the Club’s accumulated results have been reinvested."

Regarding the salary cap, Nacho Mas-Bagà explained that "our salary cap will range between 35 and 36 million. We are over the limit, and when a club exceeds it, you are allowed to register players based on the savings you generate. For example, thanks to the sale of Krejči, we have been able to register players this season."

With the market now closed, the Club now faces the challenge of consolidating the new sporting project, with a renewed squad, the commitment of its players, and the shared goal of returning Girona to the top tier.
