Goals from Castellanos and Romeu take the Red and Whites to thirty-eight points.
Girona won an important victory at Montilivi against Elche in a hard-fought match. Goals from Taty Castellanos and Oriol Romeu took Míchel's side to thirty-eight points and eleven points clear of the relegation zone for the time being.
The match started with a mishap for the Girona side. Borja García went off injured in the tenth minute, giving way to Aleix Garcia. On the quarter of an hour, Gazzaniga appeared to prevent Boyé's goal. The Red and Whites' reaction came in the 26th minute, when Aleix's free-kick went just wide of the post. As the minutes went by, Girona became more and more dominant in their opponents' half. Javi Hernandez did not get to Arnau's cross comfortably, but in the last minute of the first half, Taty did. The Argentinian headed in Toni Villa's cross to put Girona ahead. Javi Hernández could have scored the second, but his shot was blocked by Werner.
The second half began with Pere Milla's header going just wide of Gazzaniga's goal. Minutes later, Collado tested Gazzaniga again with another great save from the keeper. And in the first dangerous moment for the Red and Whites, the second arrived. Romeu took advantage of a dead ball on the edge of the area to make it 2-0.
A golden triumph for Girona at Montilivi that leaves Míchel's side with thirty-eight points, eleven clear of the relegation zone.
