Girona's deserved point at Camp Nou

Girona earned a golden point on their visit to FC Barcelona. The 'rojiblancos', true to their style, could have taken the win with a clear chance for Castellanos, but the Argentinian was unsuccessful. The draw left Girona eight points clear of the relegation zone.

The Catalan derby got off to a lively start at the Spotify Camp Nou. Tsygankov could have opened the scoring in the first minute of play, but his shot went wide. The blaugranas' response was not long in coming, and Lewandowski had a clear opportunity in the fourth minute, but he was unable to take advantage of it. Shortly after, a misunderstanding between Santi Bueno and Gazzaniga almost resulted in an own goal from the Uruguayan, but the Girona goalkeeper was able to prevent it with a great reaction. The team showed personality in a very even first half. In a quick transition in the 17th minute, Iván Martín tried his luck from the edge of the area, but his shot went wide. In the closing stages of the first half, Gazzaniga made two miraculous appearances to keep out the home side's goal. First on a shot from Raphinha, and later, on the same line, Araújo's header.

Míchel introduced a change at half-time with the reappearance of Aleix Garcia. A minute into the game, Eric Garcia had a chance to score the first goal, but his header went high. But Girona had the clearest chance of the game. Taty Castellanos missed a one-on-one with Ter Stegen after a magnificent pass from Arnau in the 55th minute. In the final stretch, David López was providential in two actions, cutting off Raphinha and Jordi Alba's attempts. Girona knew how to suffer and kept a clean sheet for the second time this season.

A creditable point for Girona at the Spotify Camp Nou against the league leaders. Girona are now on 35 points and eight points clear of the relegation zone. Sunday at 14h, Girona will host Elche in a new round of regular competition.
